Tales from a Mechanical Bird
"Alicia and the Mechanical Bird" is the original story which my current short stories are all based off. That story follows the life of a young woman named Alicia, who believes that her past life was one as a bird. She’s born again without the ability to fly and goes on a journey through her life to recover it. The stories that come afterwards are her travels across the world via plane and the people she meets and befriends. The world she inhabits is 19th century-like but some towns are more medieval while others are more advanced.
If you’re curious as to why all the stories are so short, it’s by design. I’m trying to keep the stories super short — so each one except for "Alicia and the Briar Rose" is about 1200-2000 words. Each one allows me to experiment with different types of narration and other literary ideas. Each story is meant to be complete unto itself but episodic in the arc of Alicia’s travels.
